Take These Five Safety Precautions To Avoid A Connecticut Bike Accident

In many instances of a Connecticut bike accident there are things that both the driver and the cyclist could have done to stay safe. In this case, we’re going to focus on the cyclist and how you can take control of your safety while riding your bike.

There are things you can do before you even start riding your bike to help keep yourself safe and then of course ways you can stay safe while on your ride. Here are five of them;

  1. Check your reflectors. Reflectors are one of the best ways you can be seen by on-coming cars. If they are angled wrong or not even on your bike you are setting yourself up for danger.
  2. Wear bright clothes. Just as if you were heading out for a walk, on your bike you will want to wear bright clothes so you can be seen.
  3. Follow the rules of the road. A driver in a car must follow the rules of the road and so must you.
  4. Slow down at intersections. One of the most dangerous places for a cyclist is at an intersection. If you slow down before passing through the intersection you will greatly increase your safety.
  5. Ride confidently. Riding confidently doesn’t mean throwing caution to the wind, but it does mean that if you are confident in your abilities you’ll be able to focus on your safety instead of the mechanics of bike riding.

With shorter days and longer nights, the number of bikes that are on the road will start to decrease and drivers will get complacent. Don’t let your lack of preparedness lead to you becoming unsafe on the roads.
