Protecting Your Neighbors (and Yourself) From A Connecticut Slip And Fall Accident
The long cold winter months are here and while we can’t be certain what the weather will hold, we know that cold weather often brings with it dangerous and slippery conditions. These conditions can lead to you becoming liable for a Connecticut slip and fall injury if someone has an accident on your property.
As a homeowner you will not be able to prevent every accident that someone may have while on your property, but there are things you can do to make sure to limit risk and protect yourself against these types of injuries. If you are proactive in taking these measures then injuries are less likely to happen and you may make it out of the cold winter months with a strong history of safety.
To protect your neighbors (and yourself) from this type of issue this winter, here are some steps you can take.
- Keep walkways and sidewalks clear of snow. When it snows, don’t leave it to just melt, shovel it and clear your sidewalks and walkways to prevent slips.
- Apply a melting agent. If snow is not the problem, but ice is, try to apply a melting agent to prevent your sidewalk or walkway from icing over.
- Clear out any common areas that neighbors may all use (i.e. fire hydrants) to allow for easy access in case of an emergency.
- Make sure your entrance ways and walkways are well lit. With the evening hours much longer this time of year, lighting your walkway is critical to preventing accidents in the early evening hours.
Taking action is the best thing you can do to help protect your neighbors from a Connecticut slip and fall injury on your property. Not only do you want to keep your neighbors safe, but you will also want to avoid being held liable for any injuries that occur.
