Avoiding A Connecticut Dog Bite Injury During The Summer Months

Summer months are ripe for a dog bite injury: hot and humid weather and people gathering. Connecticut dog bites happen more frequently over the summer months and mostly with children. While anyone is certainly susceptible to a dog bite, this research shows that certain people are at a higher risk.
- Children between the ages of 5 and 9 years. They commonly suffer injuries to the neck, nose, cheeks, ears, and lips.
- Men are more apt to be bitten than women.
- People with dogs at home. In a home with two or more dogs, the risk is five times greater than those without a dog.
The following are some tips for preventing a summer dog bite.
- Do not pet a dog without asking the owner first.
- Never tease or hurt a dog.
- Stay away from a dog that is not familiar to you.
- Do not hug or kiss an unfamiliar dog.
- If approached by an unfamiliar dog, stay calm.
- Never allow a child to play with a dog unsupervised.
