AAA Suggests: Drugged Driving Will Lead To More Connecticut Auto Accident Fatalities

Connecticut is among a few states in the Northeast that is considering the legalization of recreational marijuana use. While marijuana legalization is at an all time high in popularity, some organizations are warning against the dangers of the drug. AAA for instance is urging Northeast states to look at the impact that this legalization may have on the rise in fatalities due to Connecticut auto accidents.

In fact AAA is citing statistics out of Washington state which show that after marijuana was legalized the rate of fatalities due to auto accidents doubled within just a few years. The study not only looked at the impact marijuana has on a driver’s abilities, it also looked at attitudes toward driving after having consumed the drug. Nearly 1 in 11 respondents to the survey indicated that they believed it to be safe to drive just one hour after using marijuana. Additionally 1 in 19 respondents indicated that they had actually driven a car after having consumed marijuana.

AAA is leading the charge in educating communities on the dangers of driving while under the influence of marijuana. The organization is guiding legislators and community leaders to an understanding of the dangers of this drug on drivers in their states.

It is important for drivers to know the impacts of this drug on their ability to operate a vehicle safely and without impairment. Education about the dangers of driving while under the influence has been shown to be the #1 factor in reducing these risky behaviors.
