Recently at Bridgeport Hospital a medical device caught fire.  In this incident, no one was evacuated or injured as a result of the malfunction, but medical equipment can malfunction and has the potential to cause an injury and be considered Connecticut medical malpractice.

In many medical cases, machinery or devices are used to assist the medical providers in resolving your issue.  For instance, among the most common medical devices in the United States are cardiac stents.  It is estimated that nearly 7 million Americans are given a cardiac stent each year.  This is a medical device that could malfunction and cause permanent damage and even death.

If you have recently undergone a medical procedure and you believe that a medical device used during that procedure was/is malfunctioning you may need to follow the steps below;

  1. Contact your medical provider immediately.  If there is an issue that can be repaired it should be repaired as soon as possible.
  2. Follow all medically prescribed steps to ensure that any damage that is done is mitigated to the best possible outcome.
  3. Get a second opinion.  A second opinion can give you the information you need to ensure that the malfunction doesn’t do any more damage then it may already have done.

If you suspect Connecticut medical malpractice has occurred can make the difference between life or death.  If the malfunction in the medical device has caused irreparable harm and permanent injury you may want to contact an attorney who can review your case and ensure that your long term care needs are being met.

Our team of a nurse/attorney, Gayle Sullivan, RN, JD, and a doctor/attorney, Robert Messey, MD, JD, will investigate your injury from both a legal and medical perspective.  Contact our office immediately.
