Protect Your Teen From A Connecticut Auto Accident With A Driving Agreement

Teen driving safety is of the utmost importance to parents. It can be one of the things that puts parents most on edge when their teen gets behind the wheel for the first time. The good news is that there is something that you can do to alleviate some of your anguish and that is to develop a teen driving agreement.

AAA recommends this sample agreement which includes a section on items teens should do and a section on items parents should do. Of course, this agreement can be tweaked to your specific needs, but it is a good place to get started. Some of the things it recommends for teens are:

• Wear seatbelts and require all passengers to wear seatbelts,
• Be a courteous driver,
• Follow all traffic laws,
• Drive at or below the speed limit depending on road conditions,
• Meet once a month to discuss the driving performance of the teen.

This is not an exhaustive list of what needs to be covered on a teen driving agreement, but it is a start. Only you know your child well enough to know what else needs to be included. A teen driving agreement is a good way to make sure that there is no gray area when it comes to what the rules are for safe driving as a member of your home.
