Connecticut Truck Accidents: What You Need To Know To Share The Road

Thursday, August 20th, 2020 by | Posted In: Truck Accidents

When you are traveling down an interstate highway, large commercial trucks can be imposing and anxiety-inducing. Many of us find them to be unpredictable with their massive size and speed. Motor vehicle drivers in Connecticut should take the following precautions to avoid a Connecticut auto accident.

  1. Avoid blind spots. Trucks have many blind spots because of their size including, 20 feet in front, half the length of the truck’s driver’s side, 30 feet behind the truck, and two wide right lanes.
  2. Take care when passing. Because of their size and the amount of weight they are hauling, commercial trucks require a lot more space and reaction time when traveling on roadways.
  3. Show your intentions, clearly. Make sure you are using your turn signals clearly. This is good advice for not just traveling around large trucks, but for anyone you share the road with.
  4. Allow for plenty of space. Tire blowouts, sudden stopping, and high winds can cause trucks to maneuver in unintended ways. Make sure you are providing yourself enough space so you can react as well.
  5. Lower your bright lights. These lights can reflect in side mirrors for all those traveling Connecticut roadways.
  6. Avoid distractions. When behind the wheel the only thing you should be focused on is operating the vehicle.
