Take Safety Precautions Before You Play Ball!

personal injury baseballSpring weather is right around the corner (hopefully) and the kids are anxious to get outside and play in the outdoors and sunshine. That means baseball and softball leagues will be starting up and there are some precautions to take before hitting the field:

  1. Check the equipment. Make sure wooden bats and helmets are not damaged. A cracked bat could splinter upon impact causing wooden pieces to fly. If a helmet is cracked and a child is hit with the ball or bat, the head could be susceptible to injury.
  2. Helmets should be properly fitted. Use a soft tape measure to determine the circumference of your child’s head starting at the forehead all the way around the back of the head back to the forehead. Follow the helmet manufacturers guidelines for the proper fit.
  3. Proper padding. If your son or daughter’s position requires special padding or equipment make sure it functions and fastens properly.

The personal injury lawyers at McEnery Price Messey & Sullivan wish all of Connecticut’s sports teams a safe and fun sports season.
