4 More Times When You Should Visit a Connecticut Emergency Room

A few days ago we posted 5 times when you should visit the local emergency room. There are times when emergency room staff are required to help you feel better and get back to feeling healthy. It is extremely important to be seen in the emergency room if you or anyone you are with experiences the following:

  1. You cut yourself and cannot stop the bleeding. Apply pressure to the cut for 10 straight minutes. If it does not stop bleeding, head to the local emergency room. If your wound has jagged edges or you cannot get it clean, you should also get medical help.
  2. Dull ache in the chest with a shortness of breath. There is a possibility of a heart attack. Do not brush off these symptoms. Make sure you err on the side of caution and call 911 and get seen immediately. Heart attack symptoms in women can present differently.
  3. Spiking fever. A fever that spikes out of nowhere and is high warrants a visit to the local ER. Any fever over 105 degrees Fahrenheit is a medical emergency.
  4. You have a splitting headache. It could be something very serious like a rupture or blockage. If your headache comes with vomiting and dizziness, go to the ER.

If you visited the emergency room with any of these ailments, were discharged and later suffered a significant, permanent injury, call our office immediately. Our team of attorneys includes a doctor, Bob Messey, MD/JD, and a nurse, Gayle Sullivan, RN/JD, who will conduct a thorough legal and medical investigation of your injury.
