Connecticut ER Wait Times: The Shortest & Longest

Thursday, June 29th, 2017 by | Posted In: Uncategorized

It is no doubt that when a patient visits their local Connecticut emergency department that wait times can sometimes be quite long. There are many reason why this may be the case including an understaffed ER or many patients triaged ahead. The CT Post reported wait times across the state.

For broken bones, Connecticut patients can wait up to 100 minutes to receive pain medication for their injury, but the average wait time is 56 minutes. According to Hospital Compare average wait times for Connecticut emergency departments were:

Windham Hospital 30 minutes

Bridgeport Hospital 32 minutes

Derby Hospital 34 minutes

Norwalk Hospital 47 minutes

Stamford Hospital 61 minutes

Danbury Hospital 63 minutes

Waterbury Hospital 101 minutes to receive pain medication.

For patients presenting to the emergency room with more serious injuries like stroke, quick response time is imperative for diagnosis and treatment. Waiting longer than 45 minutes could leave the patient with extensive brain injuries.

Putnam’s Day Kimball Hospital reports that 100% of stroke patients get brain scan results within 45 minutes. Windham, Danbury, and Milford Hospital reported an 80% response rate.
