Connecticut Medical Malpractice: Misdiagnosis Of Serious Illness Is Common

Connecticut medical malpractice occurs when a healthcare provider fails to properly diagnose a patient and that failure leaves the patient with a permanent, significant injury, including death. A recent study out of the Mayo Clinic reports that 20% of patients who sought a second opinion with their specialists received an incorrect diagnosis had been misdiagnosed by their primary care provider. Twelve percent of patients who received a diagnosis from their primary care provider had the correct one and the majority of the remainder of patients received a partially correct diagnosis.

A study last year reported that every single one of us will receive either an incorrect or delayed diagnosis at least once in our lifetimes. It is important to know that not every incorrect or delayed diagnosis is Connecticut medical malpractice. Even if a healthcare provider does something wrong, the patient must have sustained a significant permanent injury (including death).
