Motorcycle Tips for New Riders This Spring

Now that spring weather is here, new motorcyclists will hit Connecticut roadways. Before taking your first ride, make sure you get the the right training, gear and licensing.

1. State Approved Safety Training. Get licensed. Make sure you get your Connecticut motorcycle endorsement. You must first have a Connecticut driver’s license to obtain this endorsement and then pass a DMV approved safety course.
2. Take A State Approved Course. While many motorcycle riders begin riding to go on adventures with friends, it might not be in your best interest to get riding lessons from them. The Connecticut Department of Transportation provides a list of state-approved training courses.
3. Get the appropriate gear. It’s not just getting a motorcycle, you also need a helmet and protective gear to protect you in case of an accident. 4. Don’t take on passengers until you are ready. Having a passenger on the back of your bike can change the way you ride. Make sure you are comfortable with your bike and riding before taking a passenger.
