trampoline parkTrampoline parks have skyrocketed in popularity not just in Connecticut, but nationwide. They are an indoor alternative to a playground where children and adults can get exercise. However, a new study in Pediatrics journal has found significant injury risks.

The lead author is a pediatrician at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and reports emergency room visits for children are up from 600 visits annually in 2010 to 7,000 in 2014. Common injuries include open leg fractures, skull and spinal cord injuries. Some of these injuries resulted in paralysis and surgery for these young patients. For every 11 emergency department visits for trampoline injuries, one child was admitted to the hospital.

Another valuable statistic that came out of this study was that more trampoline injuries occur at home rather than in a park setting. If you or a loved one is considering exercising at a trampoline park or at home, consider these safety precautions as set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics:

  1. Follow all instructions and posted signage at the park and instructions that accompany your home trampoline.
  2. Do not do any flips on the trampoline.
  3. Only one person at a time should use the trampoline.
  4. Trampolines should have proper padding.

If you or a loved one were injured after using a trampoline at a private residence or at a trampoline park and your injuries were significant and permanent, call our office immediately. Our team of experienced attorneys will begin an immediate investigation into your injuries.
