Motorcycling is thrilling and exciting but, there are also some very real safety concerns motorcyclists should follow when getting out on the road.
- Get licensed. Make sure you get your Connecticut motorcycle endorsement. You must first have a Connecticut driver’s license to obtain this endorsement and then pass a DMV approved safety course.
- State Approved Safety Training. While many motorcycle riders begin riding to go on adventures with friends, it might not be in your best interest to get riding lessons from them. The Connecticut Department of Transportation provides a list of state-approved training courses.
- Get the appropriate gear. It’s not just getting a motorcycle, you also need a helmet and protective gear to protect you in case of an accident. While helmets are not a requirement for motorcycle riders over age 18, the attorneys at McEnery Price Messey & Sullivan strongly suggest you wear a helmet whenever you ride a motorcycle. Review the helmet laws in Connecticut.
- Don’t take on passengers until you are ready. Having a passenger on the back of your bike can change the way you ride. Make sure you are comfortable with your bike and riding before taking a passenger.
- Follow the rules of the road. The rules of traveling on Connecticut roads are there for a reason. Follow them for safety.
