A recent study released by auto club AAA reveals that 87% of American drivers engage in unsafe practices while operating motor vehicles. This new study also predicts there will be a 9% increase in auto accident deaths nationwide.
These staggering statistics come from a report released by the National Highway Safety and Transportation Administration which also reported that 2014 auto accident fatalities hit 33,000 in 2014.
Drivers engage in at least one risky behavior a month, according to the study, including:
- Impaired or drowsy driving
- Running red lights
- Using a mobile device
- Not wearing a safety belt
Auto accidents remain a leading cause of American deaths. The attorneys at McEnery Price Messey & Sullivan encourage all drivers to safely (and distraction-free) when they operate their motor vehicles.
