Change to OUI Law Restricts Offenders

On July 1, 2015 a change to the OUI (operating under the influence) law went into effect. The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles announced that those individuals who are charged with operating under the influence will not only have their driver’s license suspended, but will also need to install an ignition interlock device (IID) to get the administrative hold removed.
An IID requires the operator to breathe into a breathalyzer-type machine before they can start their car. The amount of time an offender is required to use an IID is dependent on age, if they are a repeat offender, and if they submitted to a breath alcohol test (or similar) at the time of arrest.
