Depending on where you live and work in Connecticut, you have seen wildlife along the roadways. Whether it is a larger animal like a deer, or smaller animal like a raccoon or squirrel,  auto accidents can happen when trying to avoid a wild animal.

There are a few things Connecticut motorists can do to avoid a collision with a wild animal:

  1. Look for animal crossing signs and proceed with care. These signs are in the shape of a yellow diamond.
  2. Mind the shoulder as you may be able to see an animal on the side of the road.
  3. Eye the eyes as your headlights might be able their reflections in your headlights.
  4. Avoid swerving and choose to brake instead. Swerving may cause your vehicle to travel into another lane injuring other passengers on the road.
